Gates of Change

about

"Gates of Change" is about clearing inner blockages, exploring inner landscapes and the constantly changing realities from which our lives are woven.

This music is based on a reading of the I CHING according to the sequence of the hexagrams as arranged in the Human Design System*.
The I CHING, when read as a rhythm and drummed can produce similar effects as those produced in shamanic drumming. In this reading the drumming reproduces frequencies related to Theta brainwaves, often associated with meditative states, lucid dreaming, visions and shamanic experiences. In addition to the Isochronic Tones produced by the rhythmic pulse of the I CHING, Binaural beats are introduced to enhance this effect. This music may produce hypnogogic states in some listeners.

Ideally, the music is meant to be experienced with headphones while lying down or sitting with the spine straight and eyes closed. Avoid crossing legs as well as arms. As you begin listening focus your attention on the breath. Gates of Change is comprised of two sections. The first calms the mind and body in preparation for the second, where the constant rhythmic drive of the I CHING may produce a sense of catharsis in the listener. WARNING - the second section begins rather abruptly and is quite a bit louder than the opening, so be careful not to set the initial volume too loud.

On certain levels, the music acts on our "conditioning" and works to break down old patterns of "not-self", in effect cleaning out the energy centers or chakras and enabling the listener to reclaim or rediscover inner "space" in preparation for healing. In some cases this process may initially produce an uncomfortable reaction. However, the listener is encouraged to continue to the end of the music and to turn her/his attention back to the breath when necessary. Also, don't worry if you seem to "lose focus", since this is exactly a characteristic of the state of consciousness where Theta waves are prominent! Instead, enjoy and "explore" this “wider” area of perception. During the period immediately following the end of the music, the listener may experience a temporary sense of paralysis such as that experienced in hypnogogic states upon awaking from sleep. At this point the listener should begin focusing on external sounds to bring the consciousness back to the normal waking state. Slowly moving first the fingers, then hands, arms and so on will help to readjust to the normal waking state. The listener should give herself/himself a few minutes for this adjustment period.

The above effects vary widely from listener to listener and the current state of mind or spirit, physical condition, etc. Some listeners may not experience any of the above phenomenon upon the first few listenings. However, over time, there should be a clear shift in consciousness to a relaxed state during continued listening. Do not attempt to perform strenuous physical or mental activity which requires a high level of concentration and motor co-ordination while listening to or immediately after listening to this music.
